Is there a reason why they do this? (remaining remove)

I work in Midtown, and this blows my mind. If the lights aren't flashing, I don't need anyone directing traffic, especially when it's a hassle avoiding a person in the street. If the lights aren't handling traffic well, reprogram them.

I recently started commuting to Buckhead/Brookhaven after working from home for 2 years and the cops directing traffic under the traffic light have to be the worse. For example, on Piedmont, I've seen the cops back up the traffic all the way it blocks Peachtree and everyone is at a standstill. I was particularly mad and almost late last week when I was leaving home at 7:50am and encountered one of these cops at the intersection of Paces Ferry and West Paces Ferry. Of course the cop couldn't see the long line of cars backed up Paces Ferry because of the curve and was busy letting all the cars go through on W Paces Ferry. It was ridiculous! I've started going out of my way to avoid the intersections where these cops think they are more skilled than the traffic lights. I really don't understand it.

It makes no sense to me either. The other night I saw a cop nearly get hit by a Beamer. He just decided to walk out in the street and direct traffic and the car was going through a red light (awfully common down here I'm noticing).

If it helps slow down speeders I'm in favor of it. People don't need to drive fast in a city.

Yes, Sir, if the police are trying to be a deterrent, I could agree with that. They also could be doing paperwork on their computer, never know, but just a guess. I would rather see their presence on a busy road where people needlessly speed than not to see them at all.
