Hello:

I am looking to purchase a home on Quarles Ave(just south of atlanta/spring) in Smyrna. How is crime in this area?

I'm coming from decatur which has great festivals, how would they compare to the village green festivals?

Thanks.

In general that is a very nice area of Smyrna. Crime should not be an issue. Festivals in Smyrna are rather small compared to Decatur - we don't necessarily pull in residents from accross Atlanta like Decatur does. But there is quite a lot of activity on the Village Green including the summer concert series that it has a very nice community feel. You will be in walking distance from there as well as Food Truck Tuesdays at Taylor Brawner Park

Crime is not that bad in the Forest Hills neighborhood. However, keep in mind that the overwhelming majority of single family homeowners in the Smyrna area (and most of the close in areas of Metro Atlanta) have home security systems. Therefore, you probably should consider purchasing a security system so that you will not stand as one of the few homes without a system.

Overall, Forest Hills is a real up and coming neighborhood in which there has been a lot remodeling of the older homes and some situations where older homes have been torn down and rebuilt with newer more expensive homes. A good example is just around the corner off of Lee St. where Stonegate Circle is all new homes over $500K. Forest Hills has large lots with very large mature hardwood trees which prevent it from having a "subdivision" feel which most new homes have where the develper clear cut the property to build the homes.

Regarding festivals, the City of Smyrna has a whole Spring/Summer concert series which climaxes with the City's Birthday Celebration in August with numerous bands and a big fireworks display. Also, thre is the Jonwuil Festival (mostly crafts) and later the Spice of Life Festival which features numerous restaurants in the Smyna area - kind of a "taste of Smyrna" in September.

From Quarles Avenue, you can easily walk to all of these events. Go to the City of Smyrna's website to find out more info.

One last point, if you ever want to throw a party to handle more people than your house can accomodate, you can rent Brawner Hall which is just around the corner on Atlanta Rd. and looks like the classic Southern Antebellum mansion. You couldn't ask for a better setting and there's a park with recreation equipment for kids in the lawn on the front close to Atlanta Rd. During the summer, the Food Truck parks in front of Brawner Hall and many folks from the neighborhood gather there as they have a live band and food for sale.

Based on my experience I don't agree - do you have any facts to back this comment
