I definitely like the name Briarcliff better than some of the alternative names being batted around.... Lakeside (when there is no lake), LaVista Hills (too much like a subdivision), Prosperity (God help us...)....

North Druid Hills is a good possiblity as well, but still don't like having a city with a directional word in the name when there is no central city to correspond to it. It's confusing enough having East Point on the southside.....

Adding additional residential landscape to Decatur has little benefit. They don't want to (further) bury the school system, which is already staring down the barrel of a serious overcrowding issues. They want/need commercial, and there are not many areas to get it.

This still doesn't solve the issue with schools, since new school districts cannot be created.
If counties were not allowed to provide municipal services to begin with the huge, bloated county gov'ts would have never happened.

I have yet to encounter any current resident of the impacted area that is in favor of this...and having lived there previously, I know many.

Would it make sense for Avondale Estates to merge (be absorbed by) with Decatur and its school system?
Before you laugh:
1) They share a (small) border and have similar demographics, and nice housing stock.
2) Avondale Estates does have a large comercial area, relative to its size, that would become more desirable, if part of Decatur.
3) Avondale Estates has less than 3,000 people compared to Decatur's 20,000
4) While this will add children to Decatur's School system, Decatur will have to add capacity either way, and (I assume) there is more inexpensive land for expanding a school system in Avondale estates than in Decatur.
5) Avondale would gain stability for its school system, and home values.
6) New high school and middle school for Avondale Estates will be much closer than Druid Hills High/Middle.

Great idea.
