I believe that Gordon Wysong, then Cobb Commissioner suggested that unincorporated parts of Cobb be annexed into/consolidated with the city of Marietta. This didn't fly well with the residents!

Most of 30067 (along with parts of 30068 and 30062) should incorporate as the city of Sope Creek.

The rest of 30067, that is not already within the city of Marietta, should be annexed by the city of Marietta.
Sorry, aries, I didn't even realize there was a city of Sope Creek.

My thought was simply that those uber nice areas would be a great fit with Sandy Springs or the ritzy part of NW Atlanta. I would surprised if they were interested in merging into the city of Marietta.

Hahaha...

Guess what?

Gordon Wysong was my Little League Baseball coach when I was 6 and 7 years old (spring of 1st grade)!

I went to middle school with his sons.

You didn't read carefully, arjay. Or you are willfully playing dumb.

1. There isn't a city of Sope Creek--and no one said there was.

2. It was suggested that "über areas" should incorporate as the city of Sope Creek (along with parts of 30068 and 30062)--not merge with the city of Marietta.

Sorry, I did misread you, aries. You're suggesting there should be a new city of Sope Creek? Is there a movement afoot to do that?

Please don't start whacking me if I'm misunderstanding you, aries. I'm just asking.

Man, If I lived in unincorporated Cobb, I would want to stay that way! Who in the world would want to be annexed into the city of Atlanta?

Not whacking you--just calling you out.

No movement for a city of Sope Creek. There is only a very, very small movement for a "City of East Cobb." However, East Cobb, if anything was to incorporate, should be carved into a few cities:

Sope Creek
Willeo Park
Shallowford Heights
Sandy Plains
Noonday Creek

*If five cities are too many (which I don't think it is), Sope Creek and Willeo Park could be combined into a city of "East Marietta." And then, Sandy Plains could be folded into East Marietta, Shallowford Heights, or Noonday Creek. Thus, three cities.

Well, I agree with that, but Sandy Springs might work for them.

A couple of thoughts...

The City of East Cobb? Everyone I have talked to in my area (30068/62) have been very opposed to this. Why would we want to pay MORE taxes for services we already have? Schools over here (East Snobb) are great, police/fire services are good...so, why pay a "city" tax? Yeah...NO.

As for the inventory...you see that many of the houses/condos on the market are homes that have been turned into rentals. Many of these homes were/are upside down so lots of people had to rent out the homes. Now that values have popped a bit, many of the folks are trying to get out from under them. My neighborhood currently has 4 houses on the market...3 of them are rentals. I don't think this is coincidental. I have been on the lookout for some decent buys for investment, but the *good* deals don't last very long.

A City of East Cobb would be dumb.
