My in-laws have lived in Atlanta for 3 years now but have been leasing a house because they didnt know how long they would be there. They relocated for his job and she now works for Delta. They are now looking to purchase a home, with plans to remain in area for at least 6-7 more years. What are some good neighborhoods areas to look at if they want to remain within a 30 minute commute to the airport? No kids at home so schools are not necessarily a priority but I would imagine this effects property values? They are willing to buy a house that needs updating but want to make sure the money they are putting into the house will be a good investment that they will likely be able to recoup 10 years down the road. No need for a huge house since its only the two of them but they want at least 3 bedrooms and don't want to spend more than $300,000- what are some good neighborhoods to focus their search in?

*I wanted to add that he works in Ellenwood, GA, so commute is obviously a consideration for him as well, preferably no more than 40 minutes

Your in-laws should start (and concentrate) their search in Fayette County in the areas of Tyrone, Fayetteville and Peachtree City.

Fayette County has the best schools in the Atlanta region south of the Airport, a factor which should make re-selling a home much easier when the time comes to again relocate.

Fayette County is also a popular living location with many of those who work at the Atlanta Airport.

The Newnan area in Coweta County and the Stockbridge area in Henry County are also options worth looking into in the unlikely event that they are not able to find what they are looking for in Fayette County.

If you want to live real close, check out College Park. Moved here from Fayette County and love the change, although Fayette county is still great. Just more lively but still with a strong small town feel.

College Park / Hapeville / East Point have some nice streets that would give you a 5-10 min commute. I'd also look at intown east side neighborhoods like Grant Park, Ormewood, Kirkwood, Edgewood, East Atlanta. Those are a 10-20 min commute and are mostly counter flow to traffic. I think those areas will get you the most bang for your buck and a short commute (All should be <20 mins to Ellenwood too). There are some good suburbs on the south side too, but would will be commuting in with traffic and suburbs are not as much my personal preference and think are not as good of a mid-long term investment.
