Moving soon, Need Nursing schools around Alpharetta, Cumming, Buford (Kennesaw: how much, job market)

Hi everyone,

Moving soon, looking for advice from anyone in the field as to a good Nursing school. I will be moving around the Cumming area and don't mind traveling a few miles but rather stay in the area. Also, if anyone can apport info on the job market would be great.

Are you just starting out and what kind of a program are you looking for- LPN, RN, BSN? I was pretty impressed with Gwinnet Tech if you're looking for an AD program that will allow you to take the RN boards. Kennesaw State is another place to look into or, if you can get in and pay for it, check out Emory.

Cumming to Kennesaw would be a dreadful commute and the Kennesaw Nursing program is very, very competitive!

Emory would be a pretty bad commute as well and even worse when you were sitting in traffic thinking about how much money you were spending on tuition...

The University of North Georgia (formerly known as North Georgia College) has a Bachelor's degree program at their Dahlonega campus which would be a reverse commute and it is a very good program.

I am almost done with my prerequisites and moving up by next June 14' or so, I am looking to be accepted into AD program and need info from someone with knowledge in the area job market. So far UNG seems like the way to go, if they had an Associates program. Eventually thats my goal, but need to start in the field first, then BSN.

Curious to know how the job market is for an RN just starting. I do have over 13 years of legal experience as a personal injury litigation paralegal which hopefully will make me a stronger candidate.

If you haven't lived in GA for a year, you most likely will have to pay out of state tuition and there is probably little value in that. Any chance you can earn your associates degree first before moving or sit out a year and then start the program.

You can check with individual colleges to clarify their residency rules.

Thank you lastminutemom, Yes you bring up an important issue, will have to ask as I call the Universities for more on that. You would think by now they would make education a priority and not an obstacle. Especially if you're a single mom.
