I'm planning a weekend trip and want to stay at a fairly cheap hotel (under $100/night) but that is within the "walkable" areas of either buckhead, midtown, or va. Highland. The only thing I've found that would have been perfect is Highland inn, which is sold out the weekend I come!

So specific hotel info may be hard to give--maybe someone could tell me the "center" of these places walking areas (like a street intersection), and I can search using "radius" features.

In Buckhead most of the hotels are concentrated along the Peachtree Road corridor from just below the intersection with Piedmont Road up to the intersection with Lenox Road.

In Midtown, the remotely closest thing to a concentration of hotels is along 14th Street from east of West Peachtree Street over to east of Juniper Street, other hotels are spread throughout the Midtown area.

Outside of the Highland Inn in Poncey-Highland, there is effectively no cluster of major hotels/motels immediately in or near the Virginia Highland area, though there are a few various lesser-known bed-and-breakfasts and smaller inns in the Virginia Highland area:

There is also a Courtyard Marriott in the highly-walkable and popular urban village area of Downtown Decatur if all else fails that you could take a look at:

Probably your cheapest alternative near Piedmont Park is the Hyatt. Others that come to mind near there are Loews, W, and the Four Seasons, all pretty pricey.

Atlanta, GA Hotel Near Buckhead & Downtown

There is a boutique hotel in upper Midtown called the Artmore.

The problem with Buckhead and Midtown is that the cheaper hotels will tend to be out of the prime areas. Since it's all pretty new construction and the areas are both higher-end, you don't get cheap hotels right in the middle of the action. The Marriott Suites Midtown, Marriott Residence Midtown, Regency Suites, and Hilton Garden Inn/Homewood Suites are probably the closest things to midrange accommodation in Midtown (ACTUAL Midtown--not Atlantic Station, not Home Park). The again Hotel Midtown would have been perfect, but that was just renovated into the Hyatt and is presumably pretty expensive now.

I would check downtown, and look at Priceline Express Deals. I checked the weekend of October 4 and there was a $100/night 4* hotel available. Then just take MARTA where ever you want to go.

I have a feeling you probably are interested in nightlife (you mention Virginia Highland specifically, after all)? If so, Buckhead's hotels generally aren't very well-located anyways. It's about a mile walk to the bars from the commercial part of Buckhead. And, as mentioned, there aren't really any hotels in VaHi, and Midtown is probably Atlanta's most expensive district. I would just stay downtown and take a 5-10 minute cab ride from the bars in Midtown or on Edgewood back to your hotel. Or download the Uber app and use that for late night transportation.
