I think it will take away business from already existing hotels which will take away hours from the employees of those hotels. I don't believe there is a shortage of hotel rooms downtown.

Yes, Atlanta actually needs more hotel rooms...Definitely to stay competitive.

Lol this is ignorant. Downtown is one of biggest convention areas in the country, and actually has a shortage of hotels. Why do you think more hotels are being proposed downtown now? Also this hotel would create more jobs, so that's a point that is surprisingly even less informed.

Either way, with 800-1200 rooms it is going to be tall!

It would be interesting to see what type of architecture in collaboration with the design of the new stadium is used. Maybe another Roger Centre and CN Tower, just a suggest.

For exhibit planners, it would mean that it would be easier to move your event attendees between the meeting spaces and their hotels with minimal hassle.
This would offer Las Vegas-style convenience with the larger and better equipped meeting spaces we have in Atlanta.
I completely agree. I'm actually surprised this hasn't been done yet.

I'm trying to figure how tall this building would have to be. The Gold Deck footprint is maybe 300x300 ft, so can somebody help me with the math? 800-1200 rooms of standard size would need how many floors?

You can use the Westin as a reference point. If the deck is 300*300 that is 90,000 sq feet which is similar to the footprint of the Westin, and with almost the same amount of rooms the building should be slightly shorter than the Westin.

One could assume that any new hotel occupying the footprint of the Gold Deck would also occupy part of the current footprint of the Georgia Dome since the Georgia Dome is slated to be demolished after the new stadium opens.
