But when asked whether PARKatlanta's contract with the city would be renewed when it expires in 2016, the mayor said it was unlikely.

"I don't think it gets renewed," Reed said. "And that will probably be my last gift to the people of Atlanta."

I just hope that doesn't mean the city is going to slack off on parking enforcement.

Can anyone explain what the big issue with Park Atlanta is?

I know that some people have complained about getting tickets a few minutes after meters expired, so are people just mad at Park Atlanta for being super efficient? Or do they give illegal tickets?

I've actually noticed a huge improvement in parking in Atlanta because they finally installed a lot of digital meters that give you receipts, so you can prove your case. I was much less happy with those stupid boxes you had to shove cash into, then they could boot your car, claim you never paid, and you had no way to prove that you did (happened to me!)

Everybody seems to hate Park Atlanta, but I really haven't had any run-ins with them. Lucky?

There is no issue. People get butthurt about getting tickets for parking illegally. Everyone thinks their individual situation is special. I've gotten tickets, but each has been warranted. Man up, pay your ticket and quit bitching about how bad Park Atlanta is.

Keep the tolls and the meters away from Atlanta! Do not bring that mess here. Shirley Franklin from Philly brought that mess here. Just because other cities have meters does not mean Atlanta has to have it. Plus IMO businesses in the city will make more money without the meters

I totally agree, ATLTJL.

Park Atlanta is a huge improvement over what we used to have to put up with.

What are you smoking?

Atlanta has had parking meters at least since Bill Campbell. I don't know how far before that, but we've had them as long as I've been here.

I prefer the new ones that at least take credit cards.
