State Senate Minority Whip Vincent Fort, D-Atlanta, said Wednesday that he would file legislation this year to force the city of Atlanta to hand over operations and management of the Atlanta Streetcar to MARTA.
During a press briefing at the Capitol, Fort said that the reason he’s introducing the bill is because MARTA handles 95 percent of transit trips in metro Atlanta and has far more expertise running a transit system than City Hall does.

But wait! The Streetcar named no-desire has been such a "tremendous" success by most on CD...what's up? MARTA to get it's political hooks into this one???? Oh the humanity!

While it may be a good plan, I think this is outside of the state's control. Am I right?

I'm almost scared to ask, but what are you even on about mate?

The streetcar is what it is, a short line in the heart of a city with grand, ambitious goals. It needs to grow to do better than it currently is. I personally think MARTA will do a far better job, over all, of managing the thing than the city will, but the city needs to pay for it since it's extra services within the city, planned by the city, in conjunction with other city plans.

Construction, maintenance, and operations costs should come from the city, but be paid to MARTA for the contract of maintaining and operating the system, even as it grows.

Mayhaps, or maybe, since the FTA requires both GDOT and MARTA to work with the city through this whole thing, it has a place at the state level...

Did Sen. Forte get out his checkbook in conjunction with this demand?

The last I heard the city of Atlanta taxpayer still had a serious chunk of change tied up in this thing.

What do you mean? It's not like the tax payers would be paying anything different with a change in management....

Good. Not because they are taking it over but because they see MARTA is good enough to take it over

Except it hasn't been regarded as a tremendous success on CD. You may be confusing that with the rebuttals to this being an epic failure. Clearly it's neither a complete success or a complete failure.

I surely hope MARTA takes over. I doubt they will take possession of it, rather be contracted out to run it. CoA has shown they clearly have no idea how to run a transportation system.
