As an outsider I have my own opinions for what this means for the area, but those of you that live there:

Thoughts on what it means developmentally for the area?

Any home-owners that live near this?

How do you feel about $450m in your tax dollars going to the Braves?

Effects on Traffic? Need for road improvements? Need for rail transit? (If so, how will these get funded?)

Other benefits / concerns?

Don't think there is enough info for folks to make a final thought on this yet. From FB posts from friends in Cobb, the answer would be overall excitement, but I don't think they have thought through all the political ramifications. The overall reaction was happiness that they would be closer to home.

"Thank God I was planned on moving back to the city next year anyway because my commute would in the afternoon on game day would be pure hell"

I do not have property/etc in Cobb Co so personally I do not really care what they do with the tax dollars because I haven't lived in Cobb Co that long.

I live near that Target on Cobb Parkway

I live in Forrest Hills in Smyrna, about 2 miles or so from the proposed site. (circle 75). I am OK with the move. As a matter of fact, I'm for it. Going to a game will take about 10 minutes, if I drive. I think it will generate revenue for the surrounding area for a long time as well.

I would, however, like to see the trails/sidewalks that run down spring road connect to the stadium via pedestrian bridge like the one connecting spring hill to Cumberland pkwy. Walking to the game would be great and it would be a shot in the arm for the spring road corridor.

Perhaps more restaurants, bars and such could sprout up along the way. Cobb is pro business so I'm sure they will take advantage of this.

Traffic concerns? Well, I already gave my opinion on this on another thread so forgive the redundancy. It has always sucked between 3:00pm - 7:00pm weekdays and worse on Fridays in the NW corridor, so, maybe CCT can help. Most people coming from the northern burbs will be going against traffic and there are many surface streets to use as alternate routes. (285 will be bad, but 285 is already bad)

Many people had the same concerns about the Cobb Energy Center and that has worked out well.

Anyway, with the limited amount of info out there at the moment my initial gut feeling is that this will be good for the Braves, and the fans. (and the Cumberland/Galleria area) Only time will tell. But my Braves moving closer to my house is fine by me.

I am opposed to it. For these reasons: 1. The field they play at now is fine. It is only 17 years old and still very much a modern classy comfortable stadium. True the area around it is not the best and getting in and out is not always easy but those are things that are fixable. 2. The area around where they want to move is dense and already clogged with traffic. We have no serious public transportation out here to speak of. 3. I do not want the county to give them a dollar, much less 450 million. We already have problems funding schools out here. 4. We moved out here for a reason and a certain quality of life. That quality is already being eroded by high density development and high rises along 285. Skyscrapers and stadiums do not belong in the suburbs. They belong downtown and in Midtown. People that want to live in crowded noisy areas can live in the city. That is what it is there for. I like Atlanta proper and go to events there all the time including the Falcons, Braves and concerts and the circus. Atlanta proper is designed to handle that kind of stuff. But I live in Cobb because it is quiet, safe and has good schools. I do not understand people that move out here and want to bring the city out here. We already have enough traffic and other problems in Cobb without spending money to bring even more of it here.

I move every couple of years just to experience something different in Metro Atlanta and my two year window ends next year. I moved to Cobb Co to get away from traffic (in general) not to be in it! If I'm going to be in traffic I might as well live in the city

The best way I get in and out of downtown is Atlanta Rd to Marietta St. Not much traffic compared to interstate traffic. That's the way I go to the Ted now. I'm sure it can be used the other way as well.

The "city" is already here. Been here for over 25 years now. There are quiet N'hoods all over that area. I live in one. A stadium is not going to make as big a difference as most think it is. The NW corridor has been the "city" for a long, long time.
