I was just in Decatur last night (30033) and at the shopping plaza whether the Kroger is on N. Decatur Rd., I noticed that the laundromat, the T-Mobile store (which I used to frequent), and other business in the plaza were gone. I'm in the area often (and would often use that laundromat) and I just noticed that stores were closing there--stores that were open just a few months ago. I then decided to go to the theatre at N. DeKalb Mall because the moivie I wanted to see was sold out at Phipps and I found the Applebees there was closed too.

Not too far up the road the Emory area is thriving and I know that Emory people would use that plaza. I used to live in that area and I'm seeing a rapid decline there. Is it that the area still hasn't rebounded from the recession? With so much growth going on at Emory I thought the area would see improvement, yet everything is closing.

Just FYI - That area is not city of Decatur. It is un-incorporated DeKalb. That area has been in decline for a decade or so.

The whole area is in the process of being redeveloped. Its on the upswing, not the downswing. BTW, that is Decatur 30033 (Medlock Park), not Decatur city 30030.

If memory serves right, Kroger is taken over most of the shopping center for their expansion hence why a lot of the businesses are closed now.
