Is anyone familiar with the 900 block Greenwood Ave NE,Atlanta, GA 30306-4702?

We are looking at a rental in that vicinity and just wanted to know if there were any red flags for living there.

Is it generally safe?
Can I go walking outside during the day?
Anything else have any input on this area?

I checked crime stats and didn't see anything. I will come down and visit but wanted to get any thoughts on the area since I haven't lived here before.

Thanks!

It is generally safe. Walking in the day is no problem at all and walking at night is also fairly good for a neighborhood deep in the city. I would walk there by myself at night, but my wife wouldn't. On weekends there are some night spots on North Highland and sometimes there are criminals looking to prey on folks who have had to much to drink. Theft from cars is the most common crime in the neighborhood and I wouldn't leave valuables where they can be seen. The community association has a security patrol.

You are a short walk from shopping, restaurants, the library, an art house theater, and a grocery store. If you bike you are very close to the Beltline path to Piedmont Park/Inman Park. There is a tremendous amount happening in the neighborhood. Greenwood is where Virgina Highland (no s) changes a bit. To the North is all single family, which is very nice (400K-900K). Greenwood is a mix of single family and 2 story apartment buildings. Ponce (and Poncey Highland) with apartments, businesses and smaller homes is just to the south. Poncey Highland has become a good neighborhood on its own with only slightly lower prices than Virginia.

As a home base it is a great location. It is quick to take Ponce in to downtown or midtown or out to Decatur/Clifton corridor.
