I'm not quite sure how to go about this mess of a situation. A neighbor next door's grill caught his grass on fire and spread over to my yard, burning essentially all of my lawn. I need to move out soon and cannot wait till the new grass comes out. What should I do?

Sounds like this is heading off into the legal realm, so all I can say is to talk to a lawyer. I really don't know anything else to do.

Can you put in a claim to you home owner Ins? They then can go after the other home owner Ins policy to get re-paid.

Time wise you will not get a legal claim resolved very quickly.

Did the Fire Dept Come?

The fire probably killed off your lawn bugs.

So you've got that going for you.

That does sound like a mess. I'm assuming you and the neighbor must have talked. I mean how could you not after he almost burned your house down. Is he trying not to take financial responsibility for resolving the problem?

The insurance route suggested above sounds like the quickest fix assuming it's covered. I wonder how that would work out considering some people actual burn their lawns for some purpose that I guess they find helpful.

If you haven't already, maybe you should file a police report. I'm sure there has to be some charge that fits the circumstances like reckless endangerment or something. I'd do that just to have a paper trail.

You may have to hire a landscaper and sue your neighbor in small claims court for reimbursement.

In most cases insurance only covers the actual structure, not the lawn. Go ahead and sod it and get it all taken care of and then just file a claim in magistrate court for however much it cost to do.
