Most people using mass transit won't walk more than 1/4 mile. That's what transit people will tell you.

College students will walk a little more.

Georgia State, developers want The Ted for major project | www.ajc.com

In my opinion this is perfect for not only the area but Turner Field. If Ga State can pull it off they could create a nice urban experience similar to tech. The area is large enough for a new arena as well, which would centrally locate all athletic activities in one location. It also has enough room to build nice midrise student housing. If they were to construct a bridge to connect the existing campus to this one it would enhance the area.

MARTA having a station within walking distance is also a plus.

This is the best possible outcome IMHO. GSU needs the space, and they have already proven how they can turn a place around with what happened to Fairlie-Poplar, Edgewood, and the Five Points.

It would likely lead to quicker and surer redevelopment.

Even the prime Buckhead space has been unused for 5 years in that development. There's no certainty any private development at Turner would succeed. Georgia State has a need for much of it now.

You know, I was originally not all that crazy about GSU taking it over, but this looks great. I like the "partial re-use" of Turner, so it is not going to be a underused stadium, but will still have the history.
