So I've found that recently many projects have sprouted up in Atlanta. But the one with the most impact will improve walkability and connectivity within the city. The Atlanta Beltline has also given other communities ideas of connecting neighborhoods.
For example this

And This
College Park officially opens Phoenix Trail to walkers, bicyclists | Clayton News Daily
What do you think about using trails for connectivity? Do you have any ideas for other trails?

Not sure how much you can attribute to the as-of-yet unfinished Belt Line and how much to the Silver Comet Trail. The Silver Comet was THE original rails to trails, however the Belt Line was thought up independently by a GA Tech grad. However, I assume he already knew about the Silver Comet. The stuff in Woodstock, for instance, is heavily influenced by the success of the Silver Comet Trail for various reasons including that property values are 7% higher near the trail than 1/2 mile away.

I see all these paths more for leisure use overall which is a good thing. Maybe in decades the change will be more commute-driven, but for now, largely for recreational use for families, etc.

Good to hear about College Park, as I wasn't aware of that project. Some other areas worth mentioning: the DeKalb county around Decatur / Avondale / Stone Mountain have some great paths/biking trails for quite a while already. Also, for the past several years, in North Fulton in the Johns Creek / Alpharetta area have been working to connect their trails / biking paths. It's taking off all over.

Walking trails don't necessarily make an area more urban unless development comes around it(i.e. the Beltline).

The Beltline's always been about the rail transit, the walking trails are a nice addition. The streetcar on the Beltline is what will really improve connectivity within the city. The PATH trails and other rails-to-trails things are nice but the real story with the Beltline is the transit.

I think it was a Tech prof's idea that he gave to a grad student for his thesis topic.

It would be cool to see Atlanta with the largest trail system in the world one day.

Peachtree City has 100 miles of trails and there is absolutely nothing "urban" about PTC.
