Hi all - moving from New York State (not city). Will be working at ATL airport and looking for a good safe area to live, but not more than 30 minutes or so drive time to the airport. Please know that 9-5 traffic should not affect my commute as schedules are rarely set during rush hours.

Will be paying cash for good size home, and would like at least 1/4 acre - areas where I can get a finished basement are a plus, but no more than 150k -

No school age children, wife and teenage son (who has his own business so won't be looking for a job) just good safe area with decent proximity to shopping, amenities.

Was looking at Fayetteville, and that seemed good but want to know about other areas also.

Thank you in advance to all you friendly southerners

If you lived in Sandy Springs, you could take the train to the airport. And since you'd board early, you'd always get a seat.

Thank you!
Can't seem to find anything without maxing out in Tyrone/Senoia. Not familiar enough with Marta - I've never commuted via rail - not unwilling to try, but I do like to drive.

Where do you airport employees live???

Peachtree City and Newnan is where I would look. A lot of people who work for the airlines live there. Newnan has easy access to I-85 and it is about a 30 minute commute.

Where in Sandy Springs can you get a house with a basement and 1/4 acre lot for $150k? You can't.

I'd look at Mableton, Austell, Sandtown, Peachtree City

Sammy, there's very few cities in metro that someone won't say is good. Or they would have no residents :-)

I'd recommend putting more details about what you want, such as how many sq feet of the house. Good size home isn't very specific. What amenities would you like nearby? Organic supermarket and mixed-use development or just standard stuff?

and Thank You again!

Those all look like good areas -
min. 1700 sq. feet (want the finished basement for teenager to spread out, but if house is larger, not a problem if no basement).

Do love organic and fresh markets but are used to travelling for them here, but don't want to drive 15 minutes if we run out of milk.

I am not looking to move into a 'neighborhood' - been living on a cul-de-sac and tired of cluster neighborhood living - thinking maybe a little more rural - we've been talking and a minimum of acre of land seems good.

Hope that helps a bit - thanks all very much !

As one poster said, Mableton could work. It has a number of homes with bigger lots, a bit more spread out, like you prefer, but not sure how that works for you commute wise (I-20 to 285, I assume?). One thing you could also consider is not necessarily a home with a basement but with a finished attic. Also, seen workshops and detached garages remodeled into living spaces in some areas, if you have trouble finding a place with a basement.
