Those aren't considered upscale Black neighborhoods.

And that's just of the top of my head. Outside of Baltimore proper, it is not bad at all. Very nice area and not AS country as Atlanta area. Great place for black professionals, don't be mistaken by the Wire.

But I still choose Atlanta myself...

If you think it's tough for a professional African American woman to find employment in Maryland, try being a professional African American man!??

From OP I stated Atlanta because as a professional African American female with a degree, the job market in Maryland is terrible. The pay is average and it will take forever to invest, save and buy a house.

I think Baltimore is probably a better city for African American professionals, simply due to its close proximity to Washington.

Interestingly enough, DC is fasting becoming gentrified. Is it still a good place for African American professionals???

Then why wouldn't they just live in Washington?

I really think that Atlanta is better, because, no disrespect to the beautiful and historic City of Baltimore, the Atlanta region just seems more robust as a business environment than Baltimore overall, and surely that would also translate to people of all cultural persuasions.

A few of my work colleagues earn a six figure salary in Washington, but choose to reside in Baltimore (and the close in Baltimore suburbs), because it's less expensive than living directly in Washington.

Gentrification is occurring at a rapid rate throughout DC, but professionals of all colors are gentrifying DC, therefore, I'm not certain why you would ask, "is it still a good place for African American professionals?" Irrespective of the person's color, if they are professional and move into an "up and coming" neighborhood (and drive up the rents or local housing market prices), they are included in the gentrifying group.
