What do you think should be done with it? It's going to be a giant patch of unused tar if something isn't figured out.

I've thought about turning it into a MARTA park-and-ride with highway-only access (all residential around it).

What do you think?

GDOT is tearing out the excess asphalt and planting grass/trees. The small building on the northbound side is staying and will probably be used as an office for GDOT/SRTA.

There is not enough room to build proper platforms, stairs, elevators, etc.

I thought those would be good spots for the small footprint in-and-out gas station/convenience stores like you see on the Merritt Parkway in CT. You would think the state could still pull in a decent amount of money from leasing fees and getting an extra cut on the sales.

There is no way the residents of Buckhead would allow that in their backyards.

Even if they did, there wouldn't be the ridership or density to justify it, which is why there was never a serious proposal to drop a station between Buckhead and Medical Center.

That's sort of a remnant and those are very old rest stops, just like the ones on Taconic State Pkwy nearby North of Westchester. Nowadays, states typically only put rest stops in very rural areas with long distances in between any exits with convenience stores and restaurants. In less rural areas, especially urban and suburban, there's been enough time that most exits now have places for people to go when they get off at an exit.

Now if you combined a MARTA station and a rest area with convenience stores, that may work.

I was thinking a parking garage, but I could see how residents would be opposed to that as well.
