Not gonna happen any time soon, and I'm glad, because it was not thought out very well to maintain urban character. Part of the reason the price went down on the BRT is because they took that out. Instead, they are using part of the 2011 SPLOST to fund adding extra turn lanes, specifically to prepare for the Braves and to make the intersection more efficient.

When they start talking about the tunneling again, I want to see them do it more like a boulevard concept with a complete street and plaza over the tunnel to make it seem like more than just a pile of concrete. There'd also be an amazing view of the Atlanta and Cumberland skyline from that location.

They sound like a bunch of hypocrites. First, they complain about the SPLOST being used for regular maintenance items, then they complain about a capital project that isn't maintenance.

These blow-hards are always up in arms every time things like this come along. The anti-tax people have too much money in Cobb so other organizations are going to need to work to create an alternative voice.

Sounds like you should write another harshly worded letter.

Already did: An op-ed addressed to Cobb residents explaining why not to take that group statements seriously and why the BRT is important to Cobb County.

The BRT is happening anyway, as long as the SPLOST is passed. This is all smoke and mirrors, and I think it's so funny. When the SPLOST goes up to the voters - most of the voters won't be aware of the reality that the SPLOST is still funding 1/5 of the BRT, and short an economic downturn, that tier 2 intersection improvements for transit is a certain since sales tax revenue is almost certain to increase, especially with the Braves stadium coming. They don't even need to keep the original BRT on tier 2 of the SPLOST anymore, because of the match.
There is no way they can pull a 80% match from the feds. There are other metro projects that are further ahead in EIR and LPA that are more deserving than this pet project of Tim Lee's.

Cobb officials mull tax increase for transportation projects - Atlanta Business Chronicle

...The paper reported Sunday that there is still disagreement on the board as to whether a bus rapid transit project first proposed by Chairman Tim Lee is still on the project list....
Tim Lee trying to sneak it onto the list possibly?

And no, Tim Lee won't sneak it onto the list. BRT is politically toxic right now and would jeopardize the entire SPLOST. He's got zero support from the board of commissioners right now.

It's a shame the Atlanta Business Chronicle isn't being more careful in this case. They should leave the anti-tax sensationalism to the MDJ.

Agreed. And I should clarify that I absolutely support SPLOST and local tax measures. It's just the federal taxes that I tend to oppose.
