Looks like they will only do "sharrows" north of Euclid which is too bad. That section of road is unsafe with four vehicle lanes. Three plus continuing the protected bike lanes on up to Freedom Parkway Trail and Ponce would be much better.

NB stops at Euclid Ave (north intersection) SB lanes start at Euclid/McClendon intersection. The roadway between Corner Tavern and Starbucks is too narrow for bike lanes, better to make sidewalks safer and route bikes onto parallel roads.

There are not any parallel streets that would not add a mile+ onto the route.

The more direct routes should be prioritized more for bikes / peds because additional distance is more impactful to them than cars.

Bike lanes up to the Freedom parkway trail would make for a really nice connection.

Euclid Ave to Candler St
Coulquitt to North Highland or Seminole Ave.

I'd say those are pretty good alternatives.

However, when we were talking about Peachtree a lot of folks seemed to completely dismiss the idea of using parallel side streets.

There's a certain difference of scale here. Peachtree was going from 3 lanes in each direction to 2 lanes and a turn lane, with bike lanes. Where Moreland is currently 3 lanes, it is being reduced to 2 with a turn lane and bike lanes. Where Moreland is currently 2 lanes, there is no room to squeeze in bike lanes or a turn lane (which would be joyously met, all around, could they be)

There's also the fact that the diversion is to a multi-use path going in a completely different direction. Depending on your destination, you may actually save time by cutting the corners. Peachtree was to be the corridor, without another major corridor to dump into along that stretch.

I thought Moreland was 6 lanes up to Euclid, and then narrowed to 4.

There's an excellent low traffic corridor one block west of Peachtree. (Rivers/Vernon/Andrews/Slaton). And of course you can get on the Beltline at Bobby Jones. But the bike folks didn't seem to like that.

Well, they could fit them in if they downsized the road to three lanes (total. One lane in each direction and a turn lane) like it is north of Ponce. Of course it will take time for that to happen politically.
