All depends on where your job is located.

The title really explains nothing haha. Commute to where, and what duration of commute do you consider "not terrible"?

To avoid traffic all you got to do is live close to work.

But in general, the south side has better traffic. But living there will do you no good if you commute to Sandy Springs to work.

This is the right answer.

And its not all of the southside that has it easy on traffic. I75 south is pretty terrible, I would hate to have that as part of my regular commute. I85 south generally sees very light congestion and is probably the best of all the interstates to the suburbs.

South Side. I had to participate in job training in Marietta for about a month and I was commuting from Jonesboro. If I left the house around 6:10 and got to the southern end of 285 before 6:30, it was a painless 35-40min drive to Cobb. If there was traffic by the downtown connector, you can bypass it by cutting through the city which worked great. In the afternoon, I got out around 4:00 Moving south would be a little slow going through the city, but once you passed the connector it was smooth sailing to my exit. Personally, I don't know how people deal with the crazy amount of traffic folks get on the north side. Or further south in Mcdonough.

I don't know where you work, but most areas west of I-20 traffic ain't that bad.

The stretch of I-85 south of the connector rarely has traffic delays. It's a breeze compared to 85 north of town. I-20 to downtown doesn't seem to be too bad compared to the north or 285.

I can't belive there have been so many comments about, essentially, low density areas of the metro area when the OP hasn't even said where he or she works.

Until we get that info, there is no correct answer.
