What does this mean?

Quote:
Simms (photo) was a longtime executive with the Atlanta Housing Authority until he retired in 2012 and sometimes tangled with LGBT bars over their liquor licenses when he served on and later presided over the Atlanta License & Review Board in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Why did he give gay bars hard times over obtaining liquor licenses?

I don't know what thats supposed to mean, but yes, people do get killed in Atlanta sometimes. Now please show me the American major city where people do not get killed, and you will win the Internet.

They found a suspect, but is the gay distinction necessary in this case. He was a great Civic Rights leader period.

Yeah, but thing is most in the Atlanta community activist fold knows him for being more involved in black issues here than the LGBTQ ones. The headline is more of a claim to ascentuate rather than a retrospect on his full body of work and contributions. Similar to how Baynard Rustin was known for his contributions to the struggle for all non-white Americans fight for social equity and basic civil rights and only subtly for his sexuality.

I never thought about Simms being gay but it certainly wouldn't have made any difference.
