This is true. You will spend $300K+ , probably closer to $400K, on a home in 30030 (or 30306, 30307, 30308).

Talking Making the leap

Hello, I would like to know more about your experience moving to Atlanta. I am seeking to move there by September 08 and am currently researching many areas before i take the leap. I am a city girl by heart! I live 15 mins away from NY and am a die hard NY fan but it is pretty PRICEY here. I would like to relocate to ATL but am not too sure where to begin. If I can get transferred to GA I will be working near perimeter mall and am thinking of moving to Norcross- it seems it would be the closest to get back and forth to work. But I am seeking an area that reeks diversity...what was your experience like?

Wetina, Norcross is a suburb and a bland, somewhat declining one at that.

If you love NYC then the best thing for you is to live in the city. If you like Greenwich Village then go live near Little Five Points (closest thing, though not saying it's the same).

If you love Central Park, then live in Midtown.

There's probably nothing near perimeter mall that you will like the way you like NYC.

Check out the very south end of Buckhead 30309 its different than most people expect Buckhead to be. We recently moved here with the same considerations in mind. If schools are an issue the elem. here is Rivers its one of the most diverse in the city.

Yes, I've heard that the south end of Buckhead is more Midtown like and not the fake corporate American Psycho Patrick Bateman bling that Buckhead brings to mind...

I'm pretty sure your post is my favorite today and might be hard to beat, it really puts things in perspective at least for my way of thinking

And Rivers is an excellent elementary! I think it is one of the metro's best kept secrets. A varied group of wonderful neighborhoods go to Rivers...Peachtree Battle, Brookwood Hills, Berkeley Park, Underwood Hills, Loring Heights...fabulous areas with a wide range of prices!

Plus, Rivers Elementary feeds into high flyin' Sutton Middle and North Atlanta High.

I love your positive attitude!

30342 which is sort of South Buckhead towards the perimter and Sandy Springs might also be a good choice.

But since you are 15 minutes from NYC you could probably live around the perimeter and use the $ you save both on gas and rent to venture into the city when there are activities you want to do.

There is lots of housing within a 2-3 milie radius of the area where you will be working in various price ranges and if you find the right housing, you could be within walking distance of both work and shopping etc.

I get the impression you are single and you will find lots of that in the area.

You should make this into a new thread. It's a very good and valid question that should be apart from the original posters thread. You'll get more responses.

Obrigado (thanks), lastminutemom, I appreciate it.

I enjoy your posts as well (education interest, informed--I don't always agree with you though! )...if we knew each other in real life, I think we'd have many interesting, great conversations/discussions.

I'm a teacher, by the way.
