You're right, they don't have nearly the # of hotel rooms we do. They are building like madmen lately though.

I believe the controlling factor for selection as a Summer Olympic host city in the future will be the ability to finance a multi-billion dollar event. IIRC, a minimum of $3 billion ,exclusive of public infrastructure investment, is a requirement imposed by the IOC. Very few cities are both prepared and willing to make an investment of that magnitude as well as take on the requisite security issues. OTOH, the growth of American collegiate athletics has made hosting their major events quite prestigious and often lucrative.

I was at GSU back then. I remember.. We had the color run, the free Dave Matthews Band concert, some big conference and final four during the same weekend.

It was fun but God be with whoever dared driving around that time.

Yes, we should stop hosting popular events so that people can continue to drive without traffic. The horror...people might have to actually...*gasp*...get out of their cars and use transit.

As if the Final Four sneaks up on you... This is 6 years advance notice not to drive.

In the best city in the world. Nothing can stop the mighty ATL shanty. The new Stadium is being built, the cranes are there, nothing can stop it. Best stadium in the world. Best Airport in the game. ATL is winning on all fronts right now. We are like a 4 Billion Pound freight train coming down the tracks. Truly an unstoppable force.

Olympics like the world cup will only be for the highest spender and that likely won't be ATL now
