The deception is it seems like blacks are okay with daily crimes such as the one that killed the 19 year old girl at the Marta bus stop, but get upset with Ferguson, when crimes, murders, occur daily in Atlanta. We should be as equally passionate about senseless crimes that occur daily in own communities from people of our own color. I'm also aware of racial prejudices in both black and whites, but the same type of passion in Ferguson really need to start at home in our own communities.

Are whites ok with white on white killings since they make up over 80% of white crimes but they are still mad at OJ Simpson? I'm also aware of racial prejudices in both black and whites but the same type of passion in OJ Simpson really need to start at home in their communities

Blacks account for 53% of murders in the US in the past 30 years while making up just about 12.5% of the overall population. That is a very concerning statistic whether you are white or black. When a small portion of the population is committing a majority of the murders there is a problem within that group. The 'BLAME THE POLICE. GET FREE LIQUOR. LIGHT THE BUILDING ON FIRE" sideshow that was so eloquently displayed by these great citizens of Ferguson last night is hardly a solution but just makes the majority think these people are idiots and uncivilized. These actions do nothing but discredit anything valid in their argument. It is a shame because there is likely some institutional bias out there int he justice system, but these people pick such idiots to hitch their wagon to. Why not pick someone who was legitimately wronged and not someone who followed up stealing from a convenience store with assaulting a police officer? Stop picking such low-life losers to defend and find something valid. That shouldn't be that hard if this bias really does exist.

I would call on all on this board to dial down the rhetoric. There are still problems in this country for sure, but as a white male that has passed the 50 year mark, I want to look back at the differences that have happened positively in race relations in my lifetime. I live in a racially mixed complex... would not have been a reality when I was growing up. I work in a multi-ethnic, multi national work environment with great respect (dare I even say love?) between men and women of all backgrounds, religions, ethnicities.... would not have been a reality when I was growing up. I go to church with fellow worshippers of all stripes and hues.... would not have been a reality when I was growing up.

I mention this because I am heartbroken to see so many going backwards with these latest events in Ferguson. Just looked at some comments on FB from different news accounts. Whites using old racist language. Other whites not being blatant but using veiled racist comments. Blacks justifying property damage. It even bled over to an unrelated article on the deputy and three teens killed in the car crash in Alabama where more than one AA cheered 4 white people dead.

What in the world are we coming to? I know this Atlanta forum has many regulars of all backgrounds. Let's not let this get out of hand. Let's show love and respect, do our best to walk a mile in another's shoes and if that is too difficult, just tone done the talk. We need to heal, not find a wound and start ripping further.
