It's a beautiful, poignant novel and offers much insight into Atlanta's history. I was captivated from page 1.

I have, and know Anne. Her husband Heyward was an absolute prince. Both lovely people. Before moving to Charleston they lived on Vermont Rd in Brookhaven for many years.
The house upon which the novel was based was at 2499 Peachtree Road. The mansion, called locally the Randolph Lucas house, was moved last year to Ansley Park.

Read her other books, too. They are as good as Ptree Road.

I'm really surprised that Peachtree Road was not made into a miniseries in the 80s. It was extremely popular then, heralded as the Gone with the Wind of our time. Would you like to see it adapted for the screen?

I truly have enjoyed all of her books. The Peachtree Street mansion from her book was moved to Ansley Park last winter and is undergoing renovation. Peachtree used to be lined with the mansions of the city's elite from Midtown to Brookhaven: Margaret Mitchell's childhood home (Peachtree and 16th I believe) and the place where she wrote her novel (Peachtree and 10th) and countless others. Probably only a handfull left now that this one has been moved including the Rose mansion near Crawford Long Emory Midtown, Rhodes Hall and a few others.

Books about Atlanta or the South

Lastminutemom:

Peachtree Road is another suggestion, but it may not be intellectual enough for your friend.
