sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind a local place to gamble.

yeah to visit sure. Everyone also visits a toilet but would you want to live in one? I am not judging you or gambling, I have had fun in Vegas one time and buy a scratcher once a year or two just for the heck of it. But almost no one wants to live next to a casino. And putting it in the crown jewel of our coast Savannah uuugh I feel sick.

This is going to ruin Savannah. Time to mobilize Monday stat. This will #)$*)@#$ Savannah. Crime, drugs, crime. Crime.

I am horrified. Then again money talks. Unfortunately. Oh this makes me sick. Anyone else here from Savannah? I know that's why they want this. It'll go right on Savannah or one of our nice little coastal towns.

Remember if you are against casinos you can't drink, smoke whatever, cheat on your taxes, drive 1 mph over the speed limit, have had sex prior to marriage, etc or you are a hypocrite

Changes to HB 677

Levy a 20 percent tax on casino revenues.

Require a $1.25 billion investment for one Atlanta-area casino and a $750 million investment for the other. Each of the final two statewide licenses would require a $400 million investment.

Set a fee of $40 million for a casino company to pay for a license to the main Atlanta resort and a fee of $25 million for the second metro location. The license fees for each of the other two casinos would be $15 million.

Set aside a minimum of 90 percent, and a maximum of 97 percent, of the state’s revenue for HOPE scholarships, grants and pre-k.

Designate 1 percent to 2 percent for problem gambling organizations.
Distribute 1 percent to 3 percent to communities where the casinos are located to help them pay for infrastructure and public safety needs.

^^

This is definitely going to pass easily. The state is now seeing how much money that they can get which includes the state getting $95 million in license fees annually from all 4 casinos, plus a 20% tax on casino revenue plus money for HOPE. That's alot of money. You know how many casinos that are in Vegas plus they had around 41 million visitors last year. Atlanta would only have two casinos and we had around 47 million visitors last year so that 20% tax revenue will be huge. Since the state will get most of that money Atlanta will benefit by the additional sales and motel tax, 5000 new jobs for the low skilled workers, it gives visitors another thing to do downtown plus more restaurants, retails, etc. Can you imagine if this eventually passes and its open by the time we get another Super Bowl

This sounds like way more revenue that initially proposed, if i recall correctly. 20% sounds like ton on money. I like that this seems to include less Casinos and only one for Atlanta. I would be even happier if they limited it to two, ATL and SAV

What say does the city of Atlanta have in the matter? Does our mayor support the idea of a casino in this city? Do a majority of its residents?

I don't oppose casinos because they're immoral, I oppose them the same way I'd oppose building a landfill in downtown Atlanta. They have nothing but negative effects on the quality of life for people who live nearby.

Like I have said we can't pick and choose what is right/wrong for grown people. We either have to get rid of everything that is wrong or nothing at all. Drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, smoking weed, driving one mile over the speed limit, watching most of today's tv shows etc also have a negative effect on the quality of life for people so first if a casino is bad then a ban on alcohol and cigarettes in the state of Georgia should be done first before we talk about the quality of life from a casino.

Mayor Reed probably wants the residents of Atlanta to decide what they want for their city

Two for Atlanta. One for 1.25 billion and a smaller one for $750 million.

I can see one in Sav but I have no idea where the other one will go.
