I think by 2020, Cobb County and Houston County near Macon will be added to that list....

Quote:
Among the 78 counties that between 2000 and 2013 went from majority white to places where whites are no longer more than half of the population, 14 were at least 60% white in 2000. Of these counties, those in Georgia stand out for having four of the five biggest percentage-point swings in their white-population share.

For example, in Henry County (pop. 211,000 in 2013), 35 miles south of Atlanta, the population’s white share fell from 80.1% in 2000 to 49.8% in 2013. In Gwinnett County (pop. 859,000 in 2013), also near Atlanta, the population dropped from 67.0% white to 41.6% over the same time period.

This trend stems from a flat or declining number of whites in each of these four Georgia counties (Douglas and Rockdale are the other two), combined with a large and growing black population and a smaller Hispanic population that is also increasing in number. (In recent years, many blacks have moved to the Atlanta area from Northern states as part of a return migration to the South.) Nonetheless, in all but one of the four counties, the white population remains the largest single racial or ethnic group there.

I don't know that I'd necessarily say it is thrilling, but this is staying ahead of the curve.

Like it or not, this is the future of America. So living in one of these areas now gives a glimpse into what most of the country is going to look like in the next 20, 50, and 100 years.

I think most of us would agree that diversity is a good thing.

But let's be clear: diversity means white, black, Hispanic, Asian, etc. If your county has become majority-minority because it is now 60% Hispanic or 70% Asian, I would say you have a diversity problem. It should really be a situation where there is no majority. I'm not sure how the nomenclature works. Would a county with 65% black population still be considered majority-minority, or would it just be called majority Black?

Perhaps I should actually read the linked article....

Wow, that is some huge movement:

Here are GA's five counties:
Chatham 4.2 % change
Douglas 29.8 % change
Gwinnett 25.4 % change
Henry 30.3 % change
Rockdale 34.9 % change

No denying there is some huge population movement going on, and shifts are happening in places like CoA too where 57% were black in 2000 and now there is probably no majority.

And metro Atlanta as a whole is down to 55% white from 63% in 2000.

Love seeing the "melting pot" in action, the best communities are ones where you get people from all backgrounds and walks of life.

Most children in the USA under three are nonwhite now, according to estimates I've read. So, yes, the future and present are going to look much different than the past. What matters is that opportunities are spread equitably and representationally, so we do not have a diverse society that, however, functions like apartheid South Africa or Jim Crow America.

City of Atlanta is 52% black as of 2013 American Community Survey estimates, which are the latest US Census estimates released and the ones used for this particular study.

The USA is changing because minorities have so many darn babies they can't afford but since we have a safety net for poor people that helps pay for their housing and food there is no consequence since all the bills are covered by our tax dollars.

You do realize that whites are about 10 percent of the world's population, right? Most people are so-called "minorities."
