This is depressing on so many levels... I guess it's true what they say,"the more things change, the more they stay the same..."

Though, GSU is missing a few parts, like the GDOT state rail plan, Clayton Co. rail, and the Clifton Corridor, at least phase 1 of the Streetcars.

One of my grandpas was a streetcar man for Georgia power.

Man, they had to be tough in those days. They had to not only operate the car but police it as well. If a passenger got drunk or unruly it was the old heave-ho.

While moving? Bus operators perform the same duties now.

I never specifically asked him that, cq, but I assume they had to stop the car to deal with a serious disturbance. You wouldn't want a car barreling along without an attendant.

Things were quite a bit different back in those days, you know. There are some good accounts of life for the motormen in books like Cliff Kuhn's oral history of the city.
