The rain was a very welcomed sight yesterday
anyone have any damage? Hope not. We saw a few down trees, nothing major.

On a side note.. I really have to shut my mouth and stop bragging.
So far everyone here has been complaining of the heat.
I'm enjoying this 90-96 degree heat. I noticed there is always a breeze. 96 degree breeze but breeze nevertheless.
Been here going on 10 months,(crap I can't believe this)
We have fallen in love with your weather patterns. Fall: breathtaking, Spring: beautifully colorful, fragrant, lush, pollen wasn't that bad I was expecting worse, Winter: mildly cool, not harsh at all, Summer: so far so good, no complaints at all....well maybe roaches....

You guys are truly blessed!!!

The summers are not bad, as long as we get rain. The summer of 2011 was brutal, but we also had a drought that year. Atlanta set an all time high record that year.

These temps aren't normal. The normal high now is around 87degrees. There is a high pressure system that has been here for a couple of weeks that has the temps above normal. It will be back to normal by Saturday

I find the weather okay. Sure it's hot in the 90's, but an arid hot is worse. The rain seems to ease the situation to me.

I hope everyone made out fine, but I can say one thing - the weather forecast seems like 80% of the news. It kind of drives me a little crazy hear it talked about so much.

Well, when people say, "This weather isn't normal," that's true.

However, it isn't ABNORMAL.

Though it doesn't get 97 every summer, you can expect heat waves like this every so often, maybe every 3 or 4 years. Same thing with winter. We don't get iced in every winter, but you can expect it with some regularity, every 3 or 4 years.

This year, we had a beautiful and long Spring. Don't expect that every year. Sometimes it goes from cold to hot one day, and we've moved from winter to summer practically overnight.

Fall is pretty reliable, though. You can count on mid-September through the end of October being wonderful. Sometimes it doesn't get cold until as late as the end of December. Other times, it starts in early November.

Atlanta's weather is pretty variable and the range of what is considered normal is wide. This was a really good year aside from this heat wave we are in now. The plus side is it feels like the humidity is less than usual, even though it feels like we've and more rain that is typical. Except last summer, where it rained almost every day. That sucked.

Don't panic when you hear about droughts or floods in Atlanta. Both happen fairly regularly. When we are in droughts, the media wants you to think Lake Lanier is going to turn into the Sahara Desert and we are all going to wither and die. But it always corrects in a year or so.

This is really true. All of March and April (minus the one cold blast) was just great. Comfortable every day. Had my windows down driving home just about every day. Then it seemed like as soon as May came the humidity spiked and I had to use the AC even if it wasn't that warm.

Well we didn't have spring like temps long, my spring flowers lasted only about two weeks before summer came in early. I'm looking forward to the 80 degree temps this weekend.

A lot of people think roaches are unavoidable, but I haven't found that to be true.

All you really have to do is make sure there is no mulch, debris, etc. where your house meets the foundation. Buy a decent plastic sprayer and some commercial concentrated pesticide. I went with bifenthrin because it is indicated for centipedes, which was the problem I was having, but there are many different options depending on what pests you see most frequently. Spray all around your house outside anywhere the house meets the foundation. The goal isn't to kill insects, it is to create a perimeter at entry points to the house that they will not want to cross.

This works really well for me. I'm on a slab, but you can do a little reading and see if the rules are different for dealing with a crawl space and/or basement. When you start to see the occasional bug wander into your house, you know it's time to spray again. I usually wait for this instead of spraying on a scheduled basis to minimize the amount of toxins I put in the environment. Sometimes I go months between applications.

You really shouldn't have to accept bugs in the house as an unavoidable aspect of living in Atlanta.
