I'm originally from a state with a similar environment, and yes it is the size that makes Atlanta more attractive to me. I've lived in a couple of other places but I prefer a Tier 1 major US metro. I can go to a Tier 2 major metro, but that is as far down the totem pole I can go with what I need to thrive personally and professionally. It's hard enough for many black professionals as it is but you have to go where people like yourself and others are more open to your talents and skills.

I agree. Charlotte is the smallest metro I've lived in in my adult life, and at this stage of life, I'm not sure I could see myself going smaller than that.

I'd live in a smaller city, like Athens, or Asheville, or Charleston. As long as it had good culture and a good selection of non-chain restaurants. So, that's usually college towns. And other charming small cities.

And, I'd live in New Orleans all day. Loved it there.

The problem with most other cities in this region is, and the thing that brings people to Atlanta and keeps them there- is jobs.

College Towns always seem to be a little different anyway. New Orleans now, is a totally different ball game and wouldn't consider a small Metro by any means. Even though Metro is smaller than Atlanta, portions of the City don't feel smaller.

I can somewhat Agree with that. I could live in Nashville, Cincinnati, Louisville... Big no no to Memphis though. Large black population, City larger than Atlanta/ Metro Smaller/ Horrible Crime rate.

I like the Pine Mountain area...North Georgia up near the mountains is cool... anything south of Columbus i'm not much of a fan of.

NOLA would be an exception to my rule; I just wish it were a little closer to a major metro (Houston).
