So I am looking to get out and enjoy some weather this week, after the rain finally clears. I would like to hike Stone Mountain but is there any place you can park and not have to pay? I am aware the parking lot for the park itself costs money, but I also hear you can park somewhere in downtown Stone Mountain and simply walk to the park. Is this true? and if so how long of a walk is it from downtown to the park/mountain itself?

Yes, you sure can. Just park in the village (plenty of parking) and walk to the paved PATH (ask around if you're not familiar with the area, and then walk the trail to the mountain itself - for me, it's about a 10-minute walk. I do it all the time myself.

The Main walk up trail beings at the area labeled Stone Mountain Memorial Association. Lucky for you that is the area closes to Stone Mountain City!

If you like the park an annual pass is $40 and can come in handy if you use it alot.
