We want to be 1 to 2 hrs drive away from Decatur, Ga, where our daughter, son in law & new grand daughter live & are our main reason to move from Orlando, Fl, our home for 25yrs.

1) Budget

- Upto $2500 /month

2. House/Condo/Townhome?

- 1500 to 2000 sq ft 3 BR condo,

3. Employment Status(commute/work from home)

- We just retired, I am 60 & DW 55 yrs of age & wont be working

4. Children(public school vs. private)

- No more children at home, both have left home, my son works in Louisville, Ky

5. Suburban or Urban lifestyle preference or a mix of the two

- Suburban, Less traffic preferred

6. Easy access to public transit, important or not?

- Not important

7. Preferable demographics of desired neighborhood.

- Upper middle class, safety is important, I have a bad replaced knee, would prefer a 1 level condo in a gated community.

We are very open to 55+ active adult community, with clubhouse, gym etc...., and if we like the subdivision we are open to purchasing if renting is not available.

- We are of indian ethnicity & would prefer a Hindu temple within a 30 mins drive.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Why not live in Decatur? There are many options and a large Indian community. You can easily find something in your budget that is safe and convenient to a lot of amenities and still not be too far from downtown Atlanta.

I was all ready to suggest Lake Lanier or Peachtree City, but the temple requirement through me for a loop. I think I've only seen one and that was in Lilburn. Without question I am sure there are others, but I just wasn't looking for them so I didn't notice.

If the previous poster is right that there is a large Indian community in Decatur, then that would be problem solved except I think it is very, very different from Orlando. I think Gwinnett County also has a high population of Indians.

One thing you'll learn about traffic in Atlanta is that distance is not necessarily related to how long it takes to get somewhere. It can as easily take 30 minutes to drive 5 miles down the street on a bad day as it can to go half way around 285 on a good day.

I think you should just try to find an area that personally like and let the rest take care of itself.

There is a rather large hindu temple in Riverdale, so Peachtree City might not be that bad of an idea.

Another option is Alpharetta, although I don't know what Alpharetta has in regards to Active Retirement condos.
