Looks like Lake Mead is having problems, too:

Study Says Lake Mead Could Dry Up By 2021 - Local News Story - KVVU Las Vegas

And looks like the same discussion about development is going on.

Discussion about Lake Mead drying up has been going on since I lived there from 94-99, and like Atlanta, they've done nothing to control growth. Given that the Rockies have gotten so much snow this year, the snowpack is around 1.5 times it's normal amount, so there should be a bit of recharge in Lake Mead- it won't get back the 60+' it's down, but it'll pick up 10' or more.

Hmm...I'm late to the game.

I wonder which one of us will be the first to step up to the plate?

The way the article is written, it looks like the chances of this lake ever rebounding and recuperating range from slight to impossible, no matter what we do, especially against "man-made" global warming.

I think this whole drought thing is overrated

We have rained/been wet a lot since XMAS here in ATL.
I think the news folks are just trying to fill every lake, resevior to the brim before they will say we are at OK levels. Perhaps this is how they continue to curb excess use in homes, businesses, etc.

Florida and Alabama should call foul!

No, the drought situation is very real. Probably not the fire and brimstone that some people talk about but if we keep growing and we don't address the issue now...it will be fire and brimstone in about a decade...

If I'm correct Lake Mead is where Hoover Dam is located and supplies most of the water to the L.A. area.

So what I can't understand is how is it that an area like the Los Angeles area that is much much drier than the Atlanta area and has to have it's water pumped in from way out of state has not been worried as much about drought? Especially considering the area is like three times as populated as Atlanta and has and still does experience even more staggering growth than Atlanta.
