I'm actually surprised those percentages weren't higher in Southern Gwinnett back then. Right around where I used to live. I was firmly for TSPLOST.

MARTA survey results show that Atlantans want rail on the BeltLine

Quote:
MARTA is currently working on a project to prioritize transit projects that will be funded through the “More MARTA” tax — that’s the one that City of Atlanta voters approved in a 2016 referendum, funding intown projects only. According to an email from Atlanta City Councilman Amir Farokhi, the transit system is finalizing a few package options of projects to present to the public for comment and input in May and June.

The projects selected will result largely from the public input process that MARTA engaged in last year, Farokhi says, and the first round of meetings will be, “Are these the right projects?” while the second round will be, “How should we prioritize building these projects?”

MARTA: Atlantans don’t want just any transit on Beltline—they want light rail

Atlanta City Councilman Amir Farokhi, who’s been discussing transit goals with Beltline Rail Now!’s District 2 members, told ThreadATL that MARTA is now “finalizing a few package options of projects to present to the public for comment and input in May and June.”

Was thinking this morning....the infill station at Krog Street really should happen. With the huge development going on between Dekalb and Edgewood and all of the new retail in Studioplex it would be incredible if MARTA could drop you off in the heart of the action (and not forgetting you are right on the Eastside trail). Hopefully this new station makes the cut.

Krog St/Hulsey ranks lower than Boone, Mechanicsville, and Armour infill stations from a 2007 MARTA Infill Station Report.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Quote:
Hulsey Station
• at Beltline/Hulsey Yard
• 0.6 mi west to King Memorial Station
• 0.8 mi east to Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station

Advantages
• streamlines Beltline alignment
• significant new development underway in station area
• large and multiple redevelopment opportunities on both sides of
track

Disadvantages
• scores average in cost/benefit due to high cost
• elevated condition and constricted right-of-way adds to station

Cost
• track curvature requires changes in MARTA standards
• primary opportunity depends on sale of CSX’s Hulsey Yard which is
not currently planned
• limited window of opportunity due to new development underway;
immediate action required

Agreed, 2007 on Krog St. was VERY different from 2018 Krog St.

The disadvantages still have not changed. Hulsey Yard is still active, but rumored to be on the selling block, track is still curved and elevated above active rail lines (which will not close if Hulsey is sold.)
The Eastside Trail is connected to a MARTA Station via Freedom Park Trail and it's connection trail to Inman Park/Renyoldstown, all multiuse trail: https://goo.gl/maps/W6WycfsxZfD2
If Hulsey is sold, then ROW could be purchased and run transit to Inman Park/Reynoldstown Station, south of the rail lines and then follow the EST thru Reynoldstown to BKW.

2007, Krog Street was basically ghetto. One of our lighting suppliers used to be there in what is now Krog Street Market, and I always hated going there. A 2007 report is useless in that regard. Nowadays, Krog is quite desirable for many.

Holy long walk for a short drink of water, Batman. Just use the sidewalks and bike lanes down Edgewood.

Really, it's just under a mile from existing MARTA stations to Krog. Just a hop, skip, and a jump, right?

A pleasant 1 mile walk thru one of Atlanta's greatest streetcar suburbs, lined with Victorians.
