So, I made some time to go to the City Studio today, and was pleasantly surprised. It's a nice little space with simple exhibits (mostly posters) on city projects. The TSPLOST / MARTA Expansion, Bike Atlanta Plan, and ATL Bikeshare were all the 'featured exhibits'. Nicely enough, the TSPLOST / MARTA Expansion one had big 'ol "PASSED! VOTER APPROVED!" stickers on it.

There were other, more permanent bits showing a bit of history of the city, various components that shaped the urban landscape, and components of the city's planning. There was also office space for the resident planners, large table space for meetings whenever they're held there, some kid space, and some lounge area with books on city design and Atlanta.

What I really found nice, was the comments areas. There was a table with some 10 questions on it. The question was printed out on a cover sheet, and there was a packet of pages for comments to be written in stapled behind it. The questions were like "Should building height and type be limited near our waterways?" and "How should we prioritize our street space?". There were plenty of comments written in each packet, which was neat to read through. I definitely added some of my own writing.

There was also a wall of city planning topics, with space under each one for you to add comment sticky notes. I also left a few of these.

Unfortunately the resident transportation planner wasn't in, so I couldn't talk at them. Maybe I'll try going back while I'm still in town, or else I'll have to try and catch them in a few weeks when I get back.

Point is, I really liked the office, and the concept of the office. I hope that, rather than this being a traveling space that moves around the city, they just open more of them.

Who is the resident transportation planner? I need to talk to him about something.

I was told their name, but I don't remember. I'm awful with names. Sorry. Pretty sure they're not THE planner for the city (I mean, it'd be kinda surprising if they were...), rather just the one who works in the City Studio office.

If I get it again, I'll try to remember, but I suggest you swing by and poke your head in to chat if you haven't already.

Thanks, fourthwardren, I think I know who it is. I will swing by one day next week.
