I have to relocate to Atlanta fairly quickly (over the next 30 days) for a new job. I am not very familiar with the city and the suburbs. I do know that the new job is in downtown Atlanta and that I would be traveling a lot. Therefore, I am looking for a residence with a reasonable commute to downtown and easy access to the airport. I originally entertained the areas of the north suburbs but based on comments on this board it seems that those cities have the worse commutes. I do want a residence with some land space (i.e. homes not on top of one another) since I intend to own dogs. I'm entertaining the areas of Ellenwood, Lithonia, Conyers, and Riverdale. What are the pros and cons of these areas? How about Kennessaw? Which highways have the worse traffic and should be avoided? I don't have children so schools are only of concern for resale value of the home. I will possibly rent for a few months (which I am finding difficult with my pit bull) and then purchase. I would appreciate any suggestions (even for rentals that allow pit bulls!). Thanks!
