The park is owned by the city of Atlanta. GSU and the city have reached terms for the university to pamper the park and make it more usable for student activities.

Sorely needed, this piece of Atlanta history is mostly innundated with urban campers these days.

Hurt Park was the cat's meow when I was growing up. My parents would take us there for family pictures on Easter sunday.

Do students ever hang out at the park as is? Everytime I have been by, it is just covered in homeless people. I don't recall ever seen a park that elicits sad feelings like that one...

I didn't know that, tiki, but I am sad to hear it. Back in the day, you'd get dressed up to go to a place like Hurt park.

I see a lot of student organizations hold events in the park, and that always seems to draw crowds. A lot of times when the weather is nice, students are also there hanging out play frisbee and stuff. So, I'd say yes - students do hang out there. However, I think the park is well-positioned to draw more attention from the public - adding some small tables/chairs and get the fountain working. Those 2 things alone I think will help get people other than students to relax in the park, especially with starbucks opening across the street.

People also got dressed up to get on an airplane. It's a different, more casual time now.

The 'bums' have every right to use it, within the park's regulations, as everyone else. Where should they be 'kicked out' to?
