GSU eyeing downtown's 55 Park Place tower - Atlanta Business Chronicle

Quote:
Georgia State University has been exploring the purchase of the 19-story downtown office tower 55 Park Place.

It would be another big downtown move for Georgia State, but it would have competition.
The building, once known as Georgia-Pacific Plaza, has generated a lot of interest from other potential buyers. At least five are said to be in the mix.

It's would be a good fit for GSU...it's practically in the middle of the campus and would further connect the Piedmont sector with the Fairlie-Poplar sector. I hope GSU gets it.

Is anything in that building now?

If GSU doesn't get it, that will just force them to buy or build elsewhere, which could help improve parts of downtown that need the investment. I hope they get this building, but that's the upside if they aren't able to outbid the competition.

Just glad there's competition for the building, meaning things are picking up for downtown.

Last time that was said it was the Equitable Building and GSU lost out on that. GSU should learn to keep a lid on their deals until the ink has dried.

GSU doesn't have the money to be a competitive bidder.

Have you ever heard the government say it didn't have enough money to buy something it wants?

Park Place isn't quite as high profile...maybe GSU has a better chance on this one?

Again, I cite the Equitable Building that GSU wanted but was outbid. I think it went to another buyer for just $19 million. A steal of a deal for them. Of all the buildings downtown, the Equitable would have been ideal as an iconic building for GSU.
