Hmmm. This is a tough one - a summer assignment and the kids collaborated. Seems to me that the teachers need to better explain the rules next time and let this slide this time.

A. why are they doing summer reading? B. if the assignment was just to answer questions THEN OF COURSE SOME WILL BE SIMILAR ESPECIALLY IF STUDENTS COLLABORATE! The English language is unfortunately finite. Nothing more than some administrator throwing their weight around to show the kids who's boss.

Do we even know, at this point, what the cheating entailed, beyond similarities in students' test answers? Something doesn't quite add up here. Collaboration on homework doesn't seem like something that warrants suspension [in college, its an absolute necessity]. One or two students writing then distributing a book report that everyone then turns in as their own work, on the other hand...
