Hi everyone!

I would love some advice on areas to consider when moving from Boston, Ma to the Atlanta area. We currently live in the suburbs of Boston and are looking to move somewhere outside of Atlanta (but not too-far). My wife and I need the town/city to be gay-friendly and a great areas for kids. We have twin boys 4.5 months old - so future school systems are very important.

The main reason we are looking to move is due to the cost of living. My wife will no longer be working and she will be staying at home with the boys. We are looking to spend under 350k but want a NICE home and a nice yard/neighborhood for the boys to grow up in.

Please send me your advice on where to look and any information on specific towns or neighborhoods we should consider!

Thank you!!!

There are LGBT people all over Atlanta. Other than Midtown there is no 'best' area. No matter where you move in the metro there will be Lesbian couples.

Where will you be working - traffic can be a beast in Atlanta. Keeping your commute to a minimum has a direct relationship to quality of life here in the ATL

Decatur usually comes up as a good place for LGBT families, but City of Decatur proper would be a good bit above your budget for a single-family home (think $500K+). The 30033 zip code--Decatur address, but unincorporated--has homes around your budget (I'm seeing several older, but updated homes between $320-385k at the moment) and quite good schools at the elementary level (Fernbank, Laurel Ridge, Sagamore Hills). This area would give easy access to in-town amenities.

But as another poster mentioned, it really depends on where you'll be working though. I'd have to defer to others for recs for the northern suburbs.

That's right. If you're happy in the Boston suburbs you should find the Atlanta suburbs comfortable, too. We're a city of transplants and people tend to be open and friendly.

The hub for lesbian life in Atlanta is Decatur, not midtown. However you will find most all the Atlanta suburbs friendly enough. I had the same thought as bigup--the parts of Dekalb that have decent schools but that are not in Decatur city--Lakeside, N. Druid Hills areas. It just depends how nice a house you want and how suburban you want. These areas will be a mix of urban/suburban and your budget will put you in, say, an updated ranch on a decent street, but it won't be the big, newer swim/tennis set-up. For that I would recommend Roswell for you all, but.... it ALL depends on where you will be working.

What others have said, Decatur. There's a reason why comedians jokingly call it "dick-hater" - there's a large demograph of lesbians there.
