Drop the knife! Nope, I'd rather die, thank you very much. Ok, Buh Bye!

Somehow I believe drugs were involved.

They should have tasered the kid instead. Damn!! Can't undo this! Never did like the Tech police.

There's video out now, civilian. The student, who was wielding a knife and was reported to have gun, refused commands to disarm and rushed the responding officers after at least a minute of being told to drop the knife and stay still.

Suicide by cop?

I'd link but can't with this tablet.

It is difficult to judge this particular situation from the information I have seen so far, but it seems that police need more training in dealing with mental illness.

From that video, it didn't look like he rushed anyone, he just walked to the side off camera. A taser would have been appropriate. Hope his mom sues the pants off Tech and takes several million.

No need to shoot to kill, could have just tazered or shot in leg if really needed.

Not judging this situation, but you really need to learn something about guns. Just "shoot them in the leg" is not nearly as easy or practical as you think, it's not like Hollywood out there.

Agreed. If responding with a firearm officers are trained to aim for center of mass to maximize the likelihood of neutralizing the threat and that is sound. However, I certainly think a taser would have been more appropriate here.
