2017 Park Score has been released and Atlanta made improvements, moving from 51 to 50.
Quote:
Atlanta was tied with Dallas for the 50th spot. That ranking was a slight improvement over the 2016 score when Atlanta came in at 51.
But Atlanta’s overall placement was hurt by below-average marks for park size. According to ParkScore, the median park size in Atlanta is only 3.1 acres, compared to the national ParkScore average of 5 acres. Also, only 6 percent of city area is set aside for parks, compared to the national average of 9 percent

When the Bellwood Quarry starts its transition to a park it will help, whenever that is.

Buckhead is still severely lacking.

Wholly agree. I bet, though, that is because so many homes essentially have private parks in their front and back yards!

If they went forward with the full GA 400 cap, then that'd improve things.

I feel like we should have more smaller pocket parks with maybe just a few benches and water fountains. Just a place to chill out at. I've lived here all my life and I've never been within walking distance of any type of park and that's pretty ridiculous considering how much undeveloped land we have. The library near my house has a large grass field that's used for absolutely nothing. Usability should always be a higher priority than ascetic. I'd give up my yard any day for a nice park.

One could be a park in itself.

You could buy houses and convert the land to parks. A city I used to live in did that. They had no free land. I think they even paid 700-800k for one large lot. 400k was typical for a smaller lot.

That'd be an expensive park.

I'm sure they don't count private parks, open to the public; which Buckhead has many.
