How about the area wanting to incorporate push to annex into Stockbridge? Looking at the proposed map, it seems a majority of the area is Stockbridge already. Would it tip the balance of power enough population wise to have like minded individuals in charge and make the whole into a prosperous city?

The present administration in Stockbridge does not seem to want to have their own police department. It had been a plan a couple of years ago to get their own, but it seemed to die off for some reason. "Annexing into Stockbridge" would NOT improve city services or public safety. Crime is on the uptick in certain areas of Stockbridge, the Henry County police seem to be over extended.

Understood, but if the population were significantly expanded by an annexation, could not the people that are wanting a new city now be able to be the majority in the city and take over operations eventually? Cleaning up the whole area seems the best bet. Why have an unruly neighbor now poorer and even less likely to straighten up their act immediately to your north?

A “new” Stockbridge has plenty of room to expand to the north, northeast, and east.

I constantly see this idea of if it's broken, let's just create a new one over and over. Look at schools, it's broken, we don't want to help make it better, so we're going to create our own (charter)school that we can control.
Why are these residents not pushing to make to better for all residents of Stockbridge?

You make some good points here. I think the issue is that Stockbridge has not been a good neighbor since it systematically annexed only key commercial areas within Eagle's Landing--creating a crazy checker-board pattern. They have not been playing nice, nor does it seem like Stockbridge cares about being a holistic, healthy city.

I'm just wondering about the legality of the state de-annexing portions of an already established city. Seems like this could set a bad precedence. I don't like that Stockbridge annexed only commercial areas in much of Eagle's Landing but the crazy annexation laws in Georgia gave them that ability.

So, if it does prove to be illegal to force a city to de-annex land that it wants to keep, then it seems a good solution would be to annex these higher income and probably better educated neighborhoods and then from there elect city leadership that will make a larger, more prosperous city of Stockbridge into what these people want Eagle's Landing to be.

I don't know what it would look like and who would run this department... (I nominate me and you)... but there ought to be some state agency that mediates city squabbles and creates municipalities for the greater good. Go over to South Fulton and sort out that ridiculous mess first tho...

It would not necessarily set up a bad precedent. See what cwkimbro wrote here:

I could get behind that...if an Eagle's Landing, GA could never be.

That's the General Assembly's job (and they're friggin' garbage at it).
