I've been googling and googling, then I figured "when Google fails to provide info about Atlanta, turn to City-Data and I'll find my answers..."

I'm looking for a list showing the census estimated populations of the UNINCORPORATED areas of Atlanta Metro counties (really, just Fulton, Dekalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, Douglas & Clayton).
I'm not interested in knowing the population of {exp: Gwinnett County} including all of its municipal cities. I only want to know about the population of all the areas in {exp: Gwinnett County} that are NOT incorporated into any municipality/city...

I'm curious, if Cobb County were to incorporate all of it's unincorporated land into one big city called Cobb City or something, what would the population be?

Also, now that South Fulton is an official city, is there ANY unincorporated land left in Fulton County? If so, what is the population?

Same questions for Dekalb, Clayton, Douglas, Henry, Rockdale, Cherokee, however may metro ATL counties you want to list.

Not sure where to find that, but you can Google a county's population and it's constituent cities' populations. Subtract the two and, voila!

In Coweta County (total population 143,114):

*Newnan (city) = 38,909

*Senoia (city) = 4,213

*Grantville (city) = 3,226

*Sharpsburg (town) = 361 people

Haralson (town) = 187

Moreland (town) = 434

Turin (town) = 345

Palmetto (partial city) = 4,718

So the unincorporated population is anywhere between 90,721 and 95,439.

Do note, the total population of all areas with a Newnan address is at least 90K.

I don't think you will find exactly what you want, but you should be able to pull out Excel and do a small amount of leg work.

Just take the demographic totals your interested in for Gwinnett County and put into one row. List all its cities below that and subtract.

Two other alternatives: USA.com packages a limited amount of census data into an easy to you website. You can zoom into zip codes that are mostly unincorporated or census tracts and see raw demographic numbers for that area. The key thing here, especially in the core counties, you will find the demographics of unincorporated areas vary a good bit.

example: Gwinnett County, GA - USA.com™

That leads me to alternative #2

It isn't raw numbers, but there are many maps that show the landscape fairly accurately. NYtimes had a mapping the census dot-density map years back and there are other examples.

You can also search for maps that map single demographic groups (asians, hispanics, wealthy, poor, etc...) most of them are city-borderless, so you just have to keep in mind where the city boarders are.

That's exactly the work to find my answers that I was trying not to have to do...
But thanks...

Was really hoping that one of my CDers would have a magic link like they sometimes do that will have the answers to all of my questions.

How about this question then...

Does anyone know how many people live in the Dekalb County portion of the city of Atlanta?
How many live in Fulton & how many live in Dekalb?

Your number is going to be closer to the 95k mark as the vast majority.... i mean 95 to 98% of Palmetto residents will be on the Fulton side. Only a small portion of the city goes into Coweta. Probably only 100 people or so on the Coweta side.

One way to do it is to go to factfinder, pull the census block data, get a map that shows all the census blocks, and start adding it up.

I suspect that since that would be the reason you can't find that information. Literally no one has time for that.

As time goes on though and more areas turn in to municipalities, it'll just be simple math. Fulton county used to be a bear, but it's pretty easy to figure out now. Dekalb will be soon enough.
