Hello everyone. We are will be visiting Atlanta soon, however not sure about accomodations. We want to be in downtown atlanta near the CNN center and other places.

What are good hotels in the area, I see online most information about the luxury hotels. Are there any inexpensive hotels in the area that we would feel safe in venturing out at night? What have been your experiences at the hotels and is it safe walking downtown atlanta at night?

We will have three teenagers with us.

Thanks!

One suggestion is to see into one of the variety of hotels that have Aquarium packages where you get tickets to the Aquarium along with a room.

Here's the link to the Auquarium web site page that lists the hotels that offer that: http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/visit...lPackages.aspx

Regarding downtown at night. Well... Atlanta isn't exactly Mayberry. We have in some parts of downtown a rather lively problem with vagrants. Most are harmless and just bum money from you but a few scattered nutjobs are out there as well. As long as you stick to the Centennial Park/CNN/Aquarium area, or in the two block stretch of Peachtree around the Peachtree Plaza hotel area, you're ok. I'd avoid going to the Five Points/Underground Atlanta area after dark, though.

An alternative would be to seek out hotels in the Buckhead area North of downtown, asking for the ones that are near one of the two MARTA rail stations that serve that area. Buckhead is a more upscale part of town but has Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza malls, along with restaurants, etc. The rail can take you downtown within minutes at $1.75 each way. Maybe some others can suggest some MARTA accessible hotels in that area that are more affordable.

MARTA rail map (the Lenox and Buckhead stations are in Buckhead. For downtown you'll want to stick to the Peachtree Center or CNN stations): MARTA - Getting There - Rail Schedules & Maps (http://www.itsmarta.com/getthere/schedules/index-rail.htm - broken link)
