Hate to kill a moment, but...
Mass of 50 or so evening bikers coming from Kirkwood-Decatur down to McClendon—enthusiast-adults, who should know better (then-again my 7-year-old knows better). At least 10% riding on the wrong side of the street going through the wrong side of the roundabout—where there are actual arrows and pictures of bikes painted on the street showing folks which way to go. Bike lanes won’t fix stupid. No one deserves to die, but not everyone deserves the privilege of driving/riding on public streets and paths. If you are part of that club you should be embarrassed—if you know someone who is part of that club—please, say something to them.

The expensive costs of car infrastructure is draining the money that was supposed to go to support other modes.
In Raleigh, they actually took several four-lane "major back roads" (don't ask) and converted them to:

bike - car - turning - car - bike

You don't notice an impact most times but in rush hour, the traffic gets backed up for 5-6 light changes long whereas before, it was less than half that.

What's sad is that cyclists aren't protected even where there are bike lanes.

In this recent Kirkwood accident, a motorist veered into the bike lanes, clobbered the cyclists and then just kept on going. That is outrageous!

And in downtown Decatur this weekend, a woman was hit by a car while walking within the crosswalk and with the signal in her favor. This is an area where Complete Streets have been implemented and it's well known that there are lots of pedestrians.

Good grief!!

When cyclists develop a sense of entitlement and arrogance, it won't save them from being killed. 4000-6000 pound vehicles regularly turn onto side streets. It just so happens that such maneuvers cross over bike lanes. You will lose, every time. We don't make 90-degree turns (successfully) at 35 mph, look for turn signals or brake lights. Even if someone fails to signal, you'll see brakes. It just might save your life.

Up north, we call it the law of most tonnage and we don't walk out in front of cars even if we have the right of way bc what if they hit you? We make eye contact with the driver and once the driver has come to a stop, then we cross. The reality is no one should walk out in front of a moving car - what if the brakes go out, what if the person is texting, what if? Just like we defensive drive, we have to have a defensive mindset as pedestrians as well. The stakes are too high to lean on what the driver is SUPPOSED to do. Come on.

I was driving Peachtree Rd in Buckhead yesterday in the financial district where there are a ton of lanes and a woman was jay walking from one side of the street to another. I had to literally slow down, blow my horn and she never looked up from her phone. Never sped up. Completely out of it.

If it were up to me, I would personally ban kids on scooters but thats a whole other matter. It's way too dangerous.

Wonder what has to have happened in your life to be the one wielding an instrument of death and blaming those that get in your way as the danger?

We have the numbers. We know drivers are at fault most of the time. We got to get serious about stopping this killing.

Anyone who feels they fall in that classification or thinks they understand them.
