Latest development: https://www.reporternewspapers.net/2...ll-lanes-plan/

Sandy Springs city council wants the lanes to go under the Northridge exit instead of over them. But this could require another rework of the overpass, which was rebuilt just a few years ago.

Maybe GDOT should've thought of that before they proposed the flyovers.

There's so much like that that doesn't make sense. Another example is that they want to rebuild the 400/Holcomb Bridge interchange, which was just redone a few years ago.

This entire project is a huge cluster. I'm hoping lawsuits start flying to demand the resurrection of the Red Line up to Windward Parkway, at a minimum. This entire project is just a ridiculous excuse for a solution.

HB930 killed use of additional sales tax revenue to fund HRT expansion in Fulton Co.
Quote:
Project Corridor: GA400 Corridor
Detail

Adopted Alternative: Bus rapid transit (BRT) line utilizing GDOT’s express lanes from the North Springs Station to Windward Parkway in northern Fulton County.
In May 2018, Governor Nathan Deal signed into law House Bill (HB) 930, which allows Fulton County to bring forth a referendum for an additional sales tax of up to 0.2% to fund transit, except heavy rail expansion, within the county outside the City of Atlanta.
In January 2018, Fulton County commissioners and mayors agreed to support the arterial rapid transit (ART)/BRT option proposed in the Fulton County Transit Master Plan and to approach the state legislature for developing a solution to fund it.
Status

MARTA is updating documentation for the project’s Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS), which, if cleared, along with a Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) and a Record of Decision (ROD) from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), will make the project eligible for federal funding at a later date. Per HB 930, potential local funding could come from a future sales tax of up to 0.2% from Fulton County pending passage of a referendum by its residents outside the City of Atlanta. To reduce total public expenditures in the corridor, MARTA is working with GDOT to determine if/how the project can be implemented within the scope of the GA 400 Express Lanes in the GDOT MMIP program.

Those lawsuits should include an overturning of that language.

I'm guessing that in the year 2040, they're going to tear down whatever they have at Holcomb Bridge/400 and build a full interchange. They won't do a DDI because there's too much cross traffic on Holcomb Bridge.

Millions wasted on single overhead signs supported on both sides of the road. Each of these truss structures cost $60-80K, when an appropriate, single-pole cantilever support costs around $25K.

GDOT won't ever stop making weird choices just to be different in my lifetime.
