Hello,

Can someone recommend specific apartment communities (need 2BR) to prefer for a young couple moving to ATL in July? Heard both Marietta and Vinings are good locations.

We have seen Ashford-Dunwoody area and were impressed, except for the traffic situation in peak hours around Perimiter Mall and 285.

Thanks

Haven't lived in ATL for 3 yrs, but I do know that traffic is worse than before. You really need to live close to where you will work/study or have access to more than one route. Dunwoody is very nice, but you are stuck with 285 and GA 400 has limited uses. Vinings, the part closer to the Vinings jubilee is great and you have Paces Ferry for traveling, the connector as well. Be careful though, there are some areas in Smyrna that are not nice and are dangerous. Marietta may be too far. Decatur and the Emory/Briarcliff areas have some decent apartments and the neighborhoods are very cool. What will you be doing down there?

This can't be emphasized enough.

I lived in Vinings for 6 years and we lived in or frequented many complexes in the area.

My favorite was the Gables at Vinings. They are newer than alot of other complexes around that area (I think the Gables were built in 97). Nice amenities and good staff. Plus, there is a Kroger (grocery) right across the street and several restaurants and bars within a VERY quick drive.

The lone problem is - it isn't within walking distance of Vinings village. It is the next exit over (off 285). It is very convenient to 75 and 285. A quick back-road and you are in Vinings. It is also convenient to downtown (if you do not want to take the interstate) by going down South Atlanta Road.

Overall, the good far outweigh the bad at Gables.

I don't know much about Gables, but I *love* that particular Kroger store. We shop there all the time. :-) It's a little far to drive for us, but it's a better store than the ones closer to us.

Thanks jmmex. I will be working in Buckhead so also looking at Decatur now (since its off 285 and 400).

I did like the Ashford-Dunwoody area a lot, only problem being is the bad traffic in peak hours around Perimiter Mall and on the leading road to 285.

Can anyone recommend specific apartments in Decatur? Is it a good and safe area to live in?

Thanks kitster. Gables Vinings shows up in Smyrna and I saw another post here suggesting that area could be dangerous. Are there specific areas that we need to be aware of?

How much is the average rent for a 2BR apartment in Gables Vinings and others that you lived in? Thanks
